What does it take to succeed?

In a comprehensive set of studies that tracked people from all walks of life - from military cadets at West Point, to students at inner city New York schools, and even new sales associates - the #1 predictor of success wasn't family socioeconomic status, or education level, or good looks, but something very simple - grit. Grit is passion and perseverance for long term goals. Grit is our ability to adapt to the many surprises and challenges life throws at us and keep taking steady steps towards our long term goals. In other words, it isn't what we know at any given time, but how we continuously respond and adapt to the world round us that determines our life outcomes.

For most of their education, students focus on "what" things. For example, what year was the United States founded? Or, what formula do you use to find the third side of a right triangle? These things are undoubtedly important, but in this focus on the "what," often the "how" get's neglected. Our training program is devoted to "how," specifically the "how's" that matter most for success in the workplace. For example, how do I pick a career that I will be happy in? How can I master the skills you need for the job you want? How can I get along with my colleagues and grow into a teammate others trust and respect?

To explore these and other "how" questions, we dig into four core competencies for professional development. As learners progress with their cohort through our blended model of self-study, activities, and discussion, they build a foundational understanding of who they are, and who they choose to be in relation to the world around them. Throughout program they have the opportunity to connect two what they are passionate about, and by the end have build a personal action plan to achieve their long term goals. The ultimate goal is for every learner to walk away understanding that what it takes to succeed is inside of them already.
